Herb Finger, Treasurer Herb Finger began working at the NASA Electronic Research Center, Cambridge, Massacuseets immediately after graduation in June 1968. Two years later, when ERC was closed, he transferred, with the researcher he was supporting, to Ames “for only two years to help get things set up.” 37 years later, he is still at Ames. Herb began his career at NASA as an electrical engineer in the Electronic Systems Branch in building N213. His assignments included support of the Brain Wave Research Lab (at ERC then at Ames), the design and implementation of the Standard Wind Tunnel Data System (SWTDS), and experiment manager for Patricia Cowings' Autogenic Feedback Training experiment that flew on STS-51B in April of 1985. In 1987, Herb was appointed Chief of the Communications Operations Branch (N233) and oversaw the branch (and later the division) as network technology grew from a single AppleTalk™ network to the campus-wide ARCLAN network. He also spent 1½ years on detail to the Moffett Transition Project Office, overseeing the transition of institutional services from the Navy to NASA as a result of the BRAC closure of Moffett Naval Air Station. In 1997, Herb moved to the Wind Tunnel Operations Division as Chief, Wind Tunnel Systems Branch and was responsible for all instrumentation and data systems in the NFAC, Unitary, and 12-PWT wind tunnels at Ames. Herb was a leader in the ISO certification of the Wind Tunnels and Simulators and later heavily involved in the Center's ISO and AMS activities. In 2003, Herb retired after 35 years of Federal Service to begin working for Unisys Corporation and the proposed program manager for Unisys' ACITS bid. After failing to win the contract, Herb found an assignment working for the Ames CFO working, first, in customer outreach, then Code C process reengineering, and finally user support for both Business Warehouse (BW) and PMT (Project Management Tool). Herb's primary outside interests include golf and lacrosse. He is Treasurer of the Northern California Lacrosse Foundation, the governing body of lacrosse in Northern California, and a college and high school lacrosse referee. Herb has both a Bachelors and Masters degree in Electrical Engineering from MIT and a Masters degree in Engineering Management from Stanford. Herb is married (34 years). He and his wife, Ilene, have two children -- Randy (28), whose wife Dana is expecting their first child in October, and Lisa (24), who is currently applying to Med School..
